Centipede Grass

Centipede grass, sometimes referred to as the “lazy man’s grass,” is a low-maintenance choice that needs little fertilizer, mowing, or pest treatment. Avoid using too much nitrogen fertilizer, as this can lead to illnesses like centipede grass decline and thatch.

Although it cannot withstand cold or salt, this sod grows best on acidic, infertile soil that drains well. Choose a different kind of sod if you reside in the transition zone. Keep an eye out for iron chlorosis in alkaline soil, which causes your lawn to turn yellow or white.

Centipede grass is gentle underfoot, but because it spreads slowly, it takes longer to recover from high traffic. Because of its sluggish development, sodding is a better option for centipede grass lawns than seeding.
