One of the most popular types of warm season turf grasses in the United States.
If you’re a homeowner who loves the thick grass blade look and blue-green color in a lawn, St. Augustine may be the best choice for you.
Because of its resistance to salt and its capacity to grow in sandy soils, it is particularly successful in coastal regions. On the other hand, select cultivars, such as Raleigh and Classic, have better cold resistance. It does not function well in environments with significant foot traffic and freezing weather.
Among the requirements for maintenance are the regular mowing and fertilization of the lawn, as well as the prevention of fungal diseases such as brown patch and fairy ring. Keep an eye out for pests such as mole crickets and army worms. Chinch bugs are the most common problem, although cultivars such as Captiva and Floratam offer superior resistance to these pests.
